Have you tried poke cake

Here is where I found the original recipe for poke cake.
I made it for my sisters birthday a few years ago with Oreos, we have made it a few times since.
Yesterday she made one for my sons 2nd Birthday.
She was going for Seahawks colors
We got thw cake part colored a grey blue color.
Then you poke the cake with a round something... the handle of a wood spoon perhaps.
Mix up that instant pudding! We ours made a wonderful green color.
Poor the pudding on the cake after it is mixed following the box instructions.
Smooth it out.
She didnt get enough whipped cream. So we put on a thin layer. While saving a spoonful out to add a blue accent.
Blue accent? :)
We wrote a two with the blue! Then going with the construction theme we added this heavy equipment thing. Ill ask my brother what it is called.
Check out my next blog for the construction birthday cake.

Construction Birthday cake

I found this blog about making a caution tape stripped cake. Yeah mine didnt turn out as good.
I filled the 9" pan more than you would usually. The little bit of leftover I put in the other pan and cooked for use later.
Don't use super moist cake mix. It will fall apart.
After making the first 2 cuts the second ring fell apart.
It had nothing supportinging it underneath and nothing holding it together in the middle. So it went flat.
I was able to put my layers together wrap them and put them in the freezer. When I took the out I had ones side that would not stay up. I decided to just glue it with some frosting.
Then I remembered the directions I found called for cutting some of the cake out and flipping it to make a hole for the excavator. Well I guess that worked out.
It frosted so nicely.
I used those extra leftover cakes to make a mound for some more construction equipment.
I took the cream out of some Oreos and crushed the cookies for dirt on top of the frosting.
Leaving a 2 shape with out "dirt" I put a bulldozer at the top of it and lined it with rocks.
Chocolate rocks! I get these from the bulk section at Winco. The other blog said you can get them here.
Seahawks anyone :) yeah haters gonna hate.
We picked out all the blue and green rocks I added some frosting to the back of the dump truck so they would stick in there.
The steam roller is positioned to look like it is driving around the outside of the cake.
Now how did my inside look? Ok it turned out!

Check out this Taste of Home recipe

I added mini peanut butter cups and regular peanut butter cup instead of miniatures. Yes there is a difference between minis and miniatures.

Ingredients
1 fudge brownie mix (13-inch x 9-inch pan size)
1 package (10 ounces) peanut butter chips
1 package (13 ounceseach) miniature peanut butter cups
1 package of mini peanut butter cups
4 cups cold 2% milk
2 packages (5.1 ounceseach) instant vanilla pudding mix
1 cup creamy peanut butter
 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cartons (8 ounces each) frozen whipped topping, thawed

Directions
Preheat oven to 350°.
Prepare brownie batter according to package directions; stir in peanut butter chips. Bake in a greased 13x9-in. baking pan 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with moist crumbs (do not overbake). Cool on a wire rack; cut into 3/4-in. pieces.
Unwrap peanut butter cups and cut in half; set aside 1/3 cup for garnish.
In a large bowl, whisk milk and pudding mixes for 2 minutes (mixture will be thick). Add peanut butter and vanilla; mix well. Fold in 1-1/2 cartons whipped topping.
Place a third of the brownies in a 5-qt. glass bowl; top with a third of the remaining peanut butter cups. Spoon a third of the pudding mixture over the top. Repeat layers twice.
Cover with remaining whipped topping; garnish with reserved peanut butter cups and mini peanut butter cups. Refrigerate until chilled. Yield: 20 servings (1 cup each).
I got my trifle dish from walmart.
This was so good!

Chocolate Mickey or Minnie ears

I ran into this post on pinterest.

I traced a small Mickey ears cookie cutter I purchased cheap on Amazon.

I filled a peice of paper with traced ears put it on a cookie sheet and cover it with wax paper.

My sister prepared the chocolate in a double boiler on the stove.

After spooning the melted chocolate into a plastic baggie I cut a small hole in one corner.

I traced the outline of the ears with the chocolate then did a random scribble design to fill in.

I was short on time so I put them in the freezer to set up.

They peeled off the wax paper easily, a few broke but that meant we had a treat.

This was for my daughter's Minnie Mouse party so in used red gel icing to add a bow to some of the ears and put them on her cupcakes.
