October Already

Last Halloween was the first one Ty and I got to spend together. We had a lot of fun with it, Wizard of Oz style. We had just got Buddy so he was the perfect lion. Ty's mom found the monkey costume for Tara and I added wings to make her a Flying Monkey. Ty's costume was easy I used black fabric and made rounds that would fit in his already cut of sleeve then I sewed some raffia on the then hand sewed that into his sleeves so it could be removed easily. I sewed a crow his shoulder that his grandma had, she also gave him the hat. I made my broom. I used electrical to tape the feathers onto a dowel rod and grass I found in the floral department at Wal-Mart. Green hairspray was an extra touch :) and I love my red and black tights.

Now what to do this year!

Organization project

I did this in 3 hours yesterday morning.

On the right is a board that has a spot for a paper that has a box for each day of the week.
I will put next week behind it and the week after that behind that. It also has ribbons to tuck stuff under.
On the left is a board with a paper for writing notes on an envelope for sticking things in, I put my pens in it. It also has ribbon for tucking stuff under.
I try to be organized, but I am terrible at it. hopefully this will help me remember what I have to do.
I have already wrote something on the calender. Next Saturday my 2 sisters in law will be preforming with there taekwondo demo team. They are both black belts. The older one who is 10 can break boards and cement. The younger one who is 7 will breaking a board at the demo she is very excited.
I have also wrote something on my note board. I need to find out what time the demo is.

Tutu pictures

Buddy thinks he can sleep any where.

I like it. It looks done in this picture but there is really about 4 inches that still need to be filled in the back, it takes a lot of ribbon, guess I am going to be hitting up ribbon sales. I think I will try tulle next though.

Rice Bag tutorial

I use my serger a lot for these but there are ways around that if you do not have one.

How I made my first one
1. cut out 2 peices of fabric, each about a half inch bigger on each side than you want your finished project to be for seam allowance. 5"x7" is a great size to start with. (including seam allowance)
-what kind of fabric to use? For this design cotton or flannel, nothing to thick like fleece.

2. with right sides together sew with a 1/2" seam allowance on 3 sides, choose a smaller side to be the open side. back stitch when starting and ending (because I always forget).

3. turn it out through the opening making sure it lays flat.

4. If you are concerned about even distribution of the rice, Start about 3/4" in on the open side and sew straight across the middle the the closed side. (refer to picture)

5. Sew just inside the edge of the fabric on all 3 sides (top stitch)

6. Fill the 2 open pockets with rice.

7. fold in both pieces of the open side and top stitch it closed and you are done.

If you have a serger and are not very worried about fancy looks just serge around 3 sides with wrong sides together, sew down the middle, fill and serge the open side. The serger seam shows but its quick practical and quick.

Tutu coming soon... revised

I have not tried this yet. I am going to soon. mom4life.com sells something similar

Using elastic that is whatever thickness you want, sew the ends together (over lap the ends). Cut pieces of ribbon the double the length you want the tutu to be. Forget this part (Fold the piece in half hold the raw ends with one and and the lop with the other, wrap it around the elastic and put the raw end throw the lop around the elastic, pull tight.) Just wrap the ribbon around the elastic, hold both sides together and tie a knot next to the elastic. Continue until the thickness you want is achieved. Cut the raw edges with pinking shears to prevent fraying.

You can also use strips of tulle instead of ribbon.

I hope to have a picture of soon of my own creation!

Just like Daddy

I got the Carhartt overalls for over 50% off on ebay with the tags still attached!!!
I made the shirt then attached it to a onzie. A hat and booties to match make it a complete outfit! This was for my cousin's baby boy Benjamin.

Let me know if you have any ideas on what I should write about the projects!

I have decide to blog about my sewing projects!

I am going to use a friends scheduling posts recommendation and make posts about different things I have already made right now while I have time, then I will schedule them so they post once a day or so.

I made these last January for my neighbor/cousin's sister-in-law.
